Description

the warrior in full battle array with a spear and a shield is crafted with sea shells of differing sizes.

History

West bengal is famous for shell craft. This piece is a creation of a shell artist from the beach town of Digha. Earlier shells were used to embellish ensembles of Gods and goddesses, now they are fashioned into a multitude of images of birds, animals, deities etc

Skills

The artist has conceived of the piece with great attention to detail and perfect execution of things like the head gear, warrior's skirt etc. He has chosen the right shells to create this effect and has a flair for design.

Aesthetics

This piece is notable for how the torso and the warrior's skirt have been made with single shells of different sizes. The armor and the skirt have been suitably embellished with spikes to give a war-like appearance. The head gear is made especially attractive by an ensemble of small shells.

Material

An assembly of sea shells
